Before getting started
The Seniority Accrual Rule type is to be used for setting up the accrual of extra days of leave in relation to seniority.
To set up this type of rule, go to Settings > Regulations > Accrual, then “Create a rule” > “French seniority”.
How to define the population subject to this rule
Accrual rules must be set up in the regulations. So, if one rule applies to several regulations, you’ll need to create it within each regulation.
The accrual rule is applied to the population defined by the accrual profile. A rule can be applied to several profiles within a single regulation.
The accrual profile groups together employees who have the same leave entitlements.
Example: There are two regulations in your base, the Syntec regulation and the offshore establishment regulation. In the Syntec regulation, you have two accrual profiles: 25 days of paid leave + comp days in a package of 218 days and 25 days of paid leave.
-> You can create a seniority rule that will be applied to both accrual profiles
In the offshore establishment regulation, you only have one accrual profile: 25 days of paid leave.
-> You need to create a new seniority rule in this regulation, even if the rule is exactly the same as the one for the Syntec regulation.
How to set up the amount to credit
Follow the rule form, completing it in the order in which you read it.
To set up a seniority rule that allows for one extra day to be credited to an executive with five years of seniority in the company, and two days to those with 10 years of seniority, the following set-up process is used:
- You can add as many stages as you like. A stage is a condition on either the age or seniority, or both, which allows for a number of days to be accrued.
- You can create different entitlements according to occupation categories. In the above example, only executives are granted seniority days; you could complete the set-up for other occupation categories under the regulation.
FAQs
Can I create a fixed accrual rule with a variable amount according to age and seniority to credit seniority days to my employees?
No, that is not recommended as the way in which a fixed accrual rule is executed will not provide the expected result for seniority leave. In the same way, the operation of adjustment rules will affect this seniority leave in the event of the employee being absent, while this is not generally desired.
A seniority rule has a simple function: if the employee is present over the accrual period and if they fall within a stage, then they are entitled to a credit. There is no pro rating or rounding based on attendance rate.
My employee falls within multiple stages; which amount will be credited?
If an employee falls within multiple stages that entitle them to credits of different amounts, then they will be credited with the highest of these amounts.
