Can I take a half-day sick leave?

Before getting started

Occasionally an employee is absent for medical reasons. When an employee is absent due to illness, you must enter the employee's absence in the "Schedule management" module.

See the help page on entering absences

What do you do if the employee is absent for less than a day?

When an employee has a problem with their health, sick leave lasting less than a day cannot be declared to the Health Insurance company.

For an absence to be considered sick leave, the doctor needs to issue a medical certificate covering at least one full day.

If the doctor decides on sick leave on the first day of absence, even if the employee was only absent for a few hours, the entire day is counted as a sick leave.

If an employee is absent for health reasons without providing medical justification, the absence may be considered unjustified. In this case, a discussion with the employee will help you to find the best solution, such as deducting a day's leave or comp day, or transferring working hours to the following days.

If you are sure that you would like to deduct a half-day instead of a full day, the workaround solution is to create a new leave account which is not connected to the "Absence requiring a sick leave" category and to submit the half-day on this new account.

However, we do not recommend this workaround solution because there is a risk that it will not match the sick leave communicated to the CPAM.
